Creating processes: How much is enough?

There’s a Goldilocks aspect to creating processes for teams. Create too many and they’re mired in busy work; don’t create enough and chaos ensues.

How much is just right?

As little as possible to provide order while keeping everyone moving.


Not enough

You get to where you're going, but it's a white knuckle affair. Sometimes there's a wreck and projects get hurt.


Too much

Things are safe and predictable but move very slowly. You often find yourselves standing around for no reason.


Just right

A little slower than having none, but everyone gets to where they're going with no drama.
